5G Passive WDM Solution

As we transition into the 5G era, the deployment of wireless networks is increasingly utilizing the Centralized Radio Access Network (C-RAN) architecture. This approach often involves centralized deployment of the Distributed Unit (DU), with some 5G remote sites co-located alongside existing 4G remote sites. A pressing need has arisen for fronthaul solutions that can support base stations requiring deep coverage. While fiber direct-drive fronthaul solutions are available, they face challenges such as significant optical fiber resource consumption and expansion difficulties. To address these issues, we have introduced a 5G Fronthaul Passive WDM Solution.

Features of the 5G Fronthaul Passive WDM Solution

– Compatibility and Flexibility: The solution supports CPRI (1 to 10) and eCPRI (10G/25G), as well as STM-1/4/16/64 and various Ethernet standards (GE/10GE/25GE). This ensures seamless, transparent transmission while maximizing the efficiency of the fronthaul network.

– Network Structure Integrity: The solution expands the physical channels for pure transparent transmission without altering the existing network structure or introducing delay and jitter.

– Modular Configuration: With options for 1:6, 1:12, or 1:18 configurations, the solution allows for multi-directional and multi-level convergence, significantly reducing fiber usage.

– Diverse Optical Modules: A range of optical light modules is available, including support for CWDM with 18 wavelengths and MWDM with 12 wavelengths, ensuring compliance with various power budget requirements.

– Passive Operation: Operating in a pure passive environment minimizes failure points, enabling plug-and-play functionality without the need for complex configurations, which simplifies maintenance.

– Compact and Versatile Design: The passive wavelength division multiplexer is lightweight and compact, supporting various installation methods such as rack-mounted, wall-mounted, or pole-mounted configurations.

Application Scenarios for the 5G Fronthaul Passive WDM Solution

This solution is particularly well-suited for:

– End Point-to-Point C-RAN Networking: Ideal for scenarios where the distance between the DU and Active Antenna Unit (AAU) is within 10 km.

– Areas with Limited Optical Fiber Resources: Particularly beneficial in locations where existing pipelines are unavailable and new fiber deployment is not feasible.

– Emergency Solutions: In situations where construction timelines are tight, the solution can serve as a temporary fix to address fiber connectivity challenges.

This comprehensive solution is designed to enhance the efficiency and scalability of 5G networks, providing reliable connectivity in an evolving telecommunications landscape.
